Stainless steel really does not rust? Is the medical grade and food grade reliable?

Stainless steel is generally a general term for stainless steel and acid-resistant steel. Stainless steel refers to steel that is resistant to corrosion by weak media such as atmosphere, steam and water, while acid-resistant steel refers to steel that is resistant to chemical corrosion media such as acid, alkali, and salt.

The stainless steel family itself is very large and complex. There are martensitic steels (410,420,440C series), austenitic steels (200 series, 300 series), ferritic steels (430 and 446 series, also known as stainless steel). ). Duplex steel, precipitation hardening type.

Line up according to their corrosion resistance:

316>304>202>201>430>420.

In fact, these names of 304 and 316 are “imported”, and the national standard label is more cumbersome, so it is used less.

Note: 304L and 316L are variants of 304 and 316 stainless steel with lower carbon content. They are used where welding is required. The lower carbon content minimizes the precipitation of carbides in the heat-affected zone near the weld. The precipitation of carbides may cause stainless steel to produce intergranular corrosion (welding corrosion) in certain environments.
